Roberta Kelly - Trouble Maker / Zodiac Lady

Before Donna Summer became Giorgio Moroder's most famous success story, another powerfulvoice was helping shape the emerging Munich disco sound. In 1976, disco-soul singer Roberta Kelly scored a major breakthrough with Trouble Maker, a Giorgio Moroder-produced hit that topped the US Dance Charts and established her as one of the era's standout performers. Born in Los Angeles, Kelly moved to Germany in 1970, where a chance introduction from Donna Summer led to a collaboration with the songwriting and production team of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. The partnership proved an inspired match. Their first collaboration, Love Power, was released in February 1976 and appears among the eleven tracks featured on Trouble Maker. Recorded at Munich's legendary Musicland Studios, the album captures the creative energy that was transforming European dance music during the mid-1970s. Backed by Munich Machine and featuring guest vocals from Donna Summer, Kelly delivered a performance full of soul, confidence and disco sophistication. With the exception of Love Power, the album's material was written by Moroder and Bellotte, who also handled the arrangements and production. Highlights include the infectious title track Trouble Maker and the superb Think I'm Gonna Break Someone's Heart Tonight, both showcasing the songwriting team's gift for combining irresistible grooves with memorable melodies. As an added bonus, this beautifully remastered release also includes Kelly's acclaimed follow-up album, Zodiac Lady. Together, these recordings capture an important chapter in the story of the Munich sound and highlight the remarkable talent of an artist whose contribution to disco deserves renewed appreciation today.
