What A Bloody Long Dayis the third and final studio album by British rock band Ashton, Gardner, Dyke & Co (also known as Ashton, Gardner & Dyke.Originating from 1960s British beat band The Remo Fourand featuring Dave Caswell (trumpet), Lyle Jenkins (saxophone), Mick Liber (guitar), Steve Howe who later joined YES on guitars, Tony Ashton (vocals, keyboards), bassist Kim Gardnerand drummer Roy Dyke, Ashton, Gardner, Dyke & Co.played a musical blend of rock, blues and soul, with a notable addition of horns and humorous lyrics. Between 1968 and 1972 the band released three albums, Ashton, Gardner & Dyke(1969), The Worst Of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke(1971), and What A Bloody Long Day It’s Been(1972). Most popular in the early 1970s in Germany and the USA, Ashton, Gardner, Dyke & Co. are best remembered for their hit single ‘The Resurrection Shuffle’.Showcasing the band’s musicality and songwriting, this album’s title track ‘What A Bloody Long Day It’s Been’is a stand-out song. The album also includes other notable tracks like ‘It’s Agonna Be High Tonight/It’s A Drag, I’m A Drag’and ‘The Ballad Of The Remo Four.’Produced by Tony Ashton, who also wrote all the songs on the album, except ‘Still Got A Long Way To Go’and ‘(The Old) Rock And Roll Boogie Woogie’written by Tony Ashton, Kim Gardner, Roy Dyke and Mick Liber. ‘The Falling Song’features a string arrangement by Jon Loard(Deep Purple) with whom the band later collaborated on the soundtrack to the film The Last Rebel.
