Pearls
Stand by for an exciting new album from one of rock’s most prolific guitar players. Chris Spedding has enjoyed a remarkable career playing with some of the most challenging groups in pop and rock, from Ian Carr’s Nucleus, to punk bands and even kids’ pop chart favourites the Wombles.
As a band leader, sideman and session player, Spedding can easily adapt his style to suit his environment. But ‘Pearls’ is an album that showcases his own favourite musical genres, from R&B to modern jazz.
Chris cheerfully declares ‘Warning: May Contain Jazz’, and this 13 track CD features fresh new versions of classics like Jimmy Giuffre’s ‘The Train And The River’ and Gerry Mulligan’s ‘Cherry’. There are also lively R&B tunes like ‘Air Guitar Woogie’ and original material from ‘Snips’, formerly singer with rock outfit Sharks.
Among the first class musicians backing Spedding are legendary drummer Andy Newmark and bass player Herbie Flowers. Says Chris: “I’m pleased with ‘Pearls’. It’s the music I’ve always wanted to do and I really hope people will like it!”
