During his career of 30+ years, the singer-songwriter and guitarist, who first came to public prominence in 1994 with his release debut Touch of Your Love, has achieved critical acclaim for his five solo albums to date, was voted “Best UK Guitarist” at the British Blues Connection Awards, and is a mainstay on the European blues circuit.
Todd Sharpville has worked with some of the biggest names in the international blues scene and can be found on more than 35 compilation albums, as well as at least five Dana Gillespie releases. He participated in Mick Ronson's Memorial Concert and has been Albert Hammond’s guitarist and musical director for many years, featured on Hammond's 2006 release Revolution Of The Heart, as well as on Leo Sayer's Voice In My Head (2005). Live performances include appearances with Robbie Williams, Van Morrison, Peter Green, George Michael, Taj Mahal, Albert Collins, Georgie Fame, Kim Wilson, Tommy Castro, Brian May, the reformed Yardbirds and Joe Louis Walker, one of his earliest musical influences (together with B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Albert King, T-Bone Walker and Peter Green), who took the aspiring teenage guitarist under his wing as a mentor.
Sharpville has toured as support act for Pink, Joe Cocker and B.B. King, and was recently chosen to open for Eric Clapton in May 2022 at his Royal Albert Hall concerts in London.
For his show at the legendary WDR Rockpalast, recorded and filmed on 8 May 2023 at the Harmonie Club in Bonn, Germany, Todd Sharpville put together a thrilling set list of 15 songs from his solo albums Medication Time (2022), Porchlight (2010), as well as some previously unreleased material, like the opening number “The Blue Standard,” the gripping “Struggling,” and the moving “Sole Survivor,” planned for inclusion in his next studio album, recorded with Primal Scream’s long-time backing singer Denise Johnson, who sadly died in 2020 during the Covid pandemic. “Won’t Say Goodbye” was written on request for a friend’s funeral and “Love Knows No Bounds,” which Sharpville recently recorded recently as a duet with Robbie Williams for his charity Music Support helping musicians with mental health and addiction problems.
The Live At Rockpalast show also includes covers of Dire Straits’ “Money For Nothing,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Red Headed Woman” and “Walk Out In The Rain,” written by Bob Dylan and covered by Eric Clapton on his Backless album.
As a special guest, Will Wilde joined Todd Sharpville and his band on stage at this Rockpalast performance to play the harmonica.
