‘THE GREATEST EVER ROCK GUITARIST’
The death of Jeff Beck on Tuesday, 10 January, 2023 stunned the rock world and has drawn heartfelt tributes from his fellow guitarists and all those who had performed with him over the length of his illustrious career.
Rod Stewart who toured with Jeff in the 1960s said: “You were the greatest my man, thank you for everything.’ Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour wrote: “My friend and hero’s music thrilled and inspired me” while Jimmy Page added: “The six stringed warrior is no longer here for us to admire. His technique was unique, his imagination limitless….”
When Jeff joined The Yardbirds, replacing Eric Clapton as their lead guitarist in 1965 he immediately put his stamp on their classic Roger The Engineer album with tracks like ‘Over Under Sideways Down’, ‘The Nazz Are Blue’ and ‘Jeff’s Boogie.’
After teaming up with Jimmy Page in the Yardbirds, Jeff would enjoy great success with the Jeff Beck Group and their award-winning albums Truth and Beck-ola as well as solo albums Blow By Blow and Wired. Many of his greatest fans from Brian May to Johnny Depp will assuredly now be playing ‘Beck’s Bolero’ from his Truth album to celebrate the memory of the man music critics unanimously hailed as ‘Rock’s greatest guitarist’.
